Newer treatments in Psychiatry include rTMS (Repititive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) and tDCS (Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation). There are over 450 centres in USA with an increasing uptake in other parts of the world for rTMS. rTMS involves modulating the brain in a non- invasive manner, using magnetic coils placed on the scalp which generate frequencies of tiny currents under the area of the brain being modulated. When this is done repeatedly over a few weeks, the activity of the brain tissue changes and alleviates the symptoms of depression. The most number of studies with rTMS in Psychiatry have been done for Depression. Having trained in Harvard University, USA, we are looking to set up a Private Non- Invasive Neuromodulation service soon in Wales.
